WoW Upgrades – The Item Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the item level by +3. A random extra substat is also boosted alongside every upgrade items.

Upgraded gear is generally more useful, unless the item has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are less useful for those with higher variance due to the need to roll a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any type of armor or weapons. The item level upgrade used to upgrade the item will be consumed and can’t be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enchantments.

The upgrader is located in all major cities, and can be accessed at any time to upgrade your equipment. It is recommended to visit the upgrader at least once every few weeks, to ensure that your equipment is up to date.

The cost of upgrades will depend on the current level of the equipment being upgraded however, they will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment from other sources. For instance upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points purchasing a similar piece from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items that can be used to improve the quality of weapons and tools, armor and accessories. They can be purchased by players from NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for various currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any weapon, tool, or armor. button, which displays an image of the item at the next upgrade level when the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot for the item and the current level of the item. For instance weapons are more expensive than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Some upgrades offer discounts on Flightstones. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain amount, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

Upgraders for items can be found in a variety of locations on the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases as more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete certain achievements or quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur’s Gate II, there is no upgrader for items at the start of Icewind Dale. The NPCs who are able to facilitate upgrades are only available through a variety of methods. This is both a benefit as well as a drawback.

The easiest and most straightforward upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade can require up to 20 crests, depending on the kind of equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by completing content of the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and performing outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons of any difficulty for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons for endgame gear. The new currency system isn’t difficult to use, however it brings some changes to the process of upgrading. For instance, when an item reaches the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won’t require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change lets players upgrade their gear to the highest level possible on all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.
