3 Wheeled Buggies
A 3-wheel buggy can be used for off-road walking and for traversing terrains such as uneven paths or tracks in woodlands. They can also be easier to manoeuvre up and down kerbs than models with four wheels.
Kath, the editor of MadeForMums reviews, tried one of these 3-wheelers on tarmac, as well as on a variety of terrains. Check out her review here.
Stability
Four-wheel buggies with their center of gravity being balanced by your child’s weight in the seat, are generally more stable than three-wheelers. However, that doesn’t mean the three-wheel buggie isn’t worth a look, since the majority of these models are made to withstand everything from rough terrain to busy high streets.
Look for a buggy with large rear wheels, and one that locks on the front. This will make it more comfortable to drive and less likely to fall apart when you’re on rough roads. These all-terrain buggies also have pneumatic tires that are ideal for handling unpaved surfaces. They can be used even on sandy beaches or tracks through woodlands.
They are also excellent buggies to run with because they provide great stability on more rough terrain and help you stay with your running companion. They can also go up and down steep kerbs and a lot of them come with spring suspension built-in so that your baby will have a comfortable ride.
A stroller with three wheels can be difficult to maneuver because of its large frame. It can be more difficult to get through doorways and narrow spaces than a 4-wheeler. Some manufacturers have solved this problem with clever design that turns the wheels upside down when they are not in use. This reduces their size and makes it easier to squeeze through doors.
It’s also important to consider whether the buggy you choose to use is suitable for your child from birth, or if you’re thinking of using it with an infant car seat or carry cot. If so, check for a lie-flat position and whether the design is compatible with second seats and buggy boards (if you’d like to add a toddler onboard). A majority of 3-wheelers can fold flat, and then be stacked upright. This is a great option when you have a small boot space or have limited storage at home. However, some will require you to take out the front wheel before folding in order to fit into even more compact space.
Manoeuvrability
Three-wheeled buggies can be more maneuverable than four-wheeled strollers. They usually have a swivelling wheel on the front that lets you shift direction quickly and steer with just one hand. Some models have a lockable wheel that can offer stability on rough terrain. Certain models can be used with an additional seat or buggy board should you decide to grow your family.
If you intend to take your three-wheeled buggies off the roads that are paved then you should opt for an option that has pneumatic tyres. They can handle the most difficult terrain. These tyres will need periodic pumping, but will be much more durable than tyres made of solid rubber and are more likely to be puncture-proof. You should look for a model that has an swiveling front wheel that is locked to assist you on difficult surfaces.
When folded, three-wheelers may be heavier than buggies with four wheels due to the single wheel in front. Check that your chosen model can fit in the boot of your car and can be stood up, if required. Some models fold with one hand, and can be rearranged when folded. This can save space in the boot of your car.
A good 3 wheel pushchair is able to cope with any terrain, from busy streets to woodland tracks. It is important to consider what you’ll be using it for every day. If you’ll be running the school run, it ought to be able to handle steep kerbs and slopes. If you’ll be running on it, make sure it has an adjustable swivelling’stretch’ lockable front wheel to ensure that the ride is stable.
MFM reviewer Kath found her three-wheeled buggy to be able to perform well on both rural and urban walks. Kath said it negotiated rocky paths, cobbles and bumpy pavements easily and was comfortable to jog with. It’s also a great choice for day trips as it has a lot of storage space. It comes with an enormous, spacious, zip-top basket that is covered and an expandable 50+ UV hood. It can also be adapted to accommodate babies from birth using a lie-flat seat or a carry cot, in addition to being compatible with most popular second-seats and buggy boards.
Fabric Sling Seat
The key difference between a fabric sling and a modular seat is that the fabric sling fits comfortably inside the frame of the buggy instead of sitting on top like a modular seat. This enables a much more ergonomically-correct position for baby, which instantly delivers lower center of gravity and a more appropriate height. This leads to a smoother push, a less hefty curb-pop (you don’t need to exert as much effort and weight to lift the buggy off the curb) and increased stability and balance.
The sling fabrics that are used in these kinds of buggy seats are also extremely durable and easy to clean. They were designed specifically with sling chair applications in mind they are UV resistant and breathable. They also have an excellent durability and are easy to clean using mild soap and water.
If you’re a jogger, or like to do some off-roading, an all terrain 3 wheeler will be more your bag than a 4-wheeler. These styles generally have a larger base, more stable, and utilise air filled tyres for agile smooth moving over rough terrain.

3 wheel all terrain pushchair-wheel buggies offer more stability than 4-wheel strollers, making them ideal for off-road or all-terrain adventures. The large front wheel that is extremely maneuverable allows for smooth and swift movement. The tyres, which are usually air-filled and come with suspension, offer a comfortable ride on the most difficult roads and trails. The wheels are not as close to the ground on these pushchairs, as they are with four wheeled pushchairs. This makes them great for walking uphill.
